"Our progress is ruined, the country is over if the President does not take a decision" - Central Bank Governor gives a red light !

The Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe has warned that if the President does not take immediate action to resolve the political instability in the country, the people of the country will not be able to avoid taking to the streets.

At a press conference today, he said, "The situation in the country this week has changed the direction of progress that has so far been difficult to achieve."

"The economy of a country where violence is rampant cannot be restored. Attempts to do so are futile." "Failure to maintain law and order, political instability further complicates the way out of our crisis."

He pointed out that the country is now in a state of inactivity with only one organizing president.

"The President and all the people's representatives in Parliament must act expeditiously to create a situation in which the present situation can be resolved." "It can not be too late. Otherwise, as the Central Bank, we will have to declare that the economy will fall further into chaos."

"If this situation continues for a few more days, gas, fuel, electricity and essential commodities will be cut off. Power will be cut off for about 10 hours and people will take to the streets," he warned.
