The Governor of the Central Bank says that he will resign if the political crisis is not resolved within two weeks !

Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe says he will step down as Governor of the Central Bank if the political crisis in the country is not resolved within the next two weeks.

He was responding to a question posed by a journalist at a press conference on May 11.

He said that the Mirihana incident was the first incident of political instability in the country and that he had previously expressed his desire to take over as the Governor of the Central Bank.

He said he hoped the situation would stabilize in about two weeks and then the economic program would be successful.

But by this time

He said the situation has worsened.

Mr. Weerasinghe stressed that if all political parties do not work together to stabilize the country, no one but himself can rebuild the country.

"The reason is that there is no solution to the fact that I was in this. It is not possible for me or anyone else to come to this position alone. The Central Bank alone will not be able to rebuild this country. I do not intend to serve as the Governor of the Central Bank.
