Supreme Court issues interim order suspending Presidential pardon granted to Duminda Silva

The Supreme Court has issued an interim order suspending the presidential pardon granted to Duminda Silva.


Accordingly, the Supreme Court has directed the CID to implement the order.


The Supreme Court has also ordered the court to seize his passport.


On June 24, 2021, Rupees. Duminda Silva was released on a presidential pardon.


Duminda Silva and five others were sentenced to death on September 8, 2016 for the shooting death of four persons, including Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra.


Duminda Silva, Anura Thushara de Mel, Chaminda Ravi Jayanath alias Dematagoda Chaminda, Sarath Bandara and Priyantha Janaka Bandara were sentenced to death.


The verdict was announced as a 2/1 split verdict, with a three-judge panel deciding to sentence the convicts to death.


Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra and four others were killed in a shootout on October 8, 2011 in the Walpola area in Mulleriyawa.
