Swarna Kahawita, a veteran and popular actress of Sri Lankan cinema in the 60's and 70's has passed away.
She has been contributing to the Sri Lankan cinema for over 50 years and has been ill for some time and has passed away.
She is the sister of veteran cinematographer Ariyaratne Kahawita and entered Sinhala cinema playing a minor role in the film 'Vesathuru Siritha'.
She then played the lead role of Binaramali for the first time in the film 'Binaramali' and won the Sarasaviya Award for Best Actress for that role in 1970.
Mrs. Swarna Kahawita has acted in over 35 films such as 'Secret Island', 'Rana Parrot', 'Cyril Malli', 'Rang Onchilla', 'Mystery', 'Onna Babo Billo Enawa', 'Three Very Goods' and 'Dear Nilu'. Contributed.
Her last rites will be performed at Borella Cemetery tomorrow (24) at 4.30 pm.
