Woman of Sri Lankan origin joins Australian Parliament !

Cassandra Fernando of Sri Lankan origin has been elected to Parliament at the Australian Federal General Election.

This is the first time a Sri Lankan-born woman has been elected to the Australian Parliament.

Representing the Labor Party, she received 10,408 votes, or 57.7%.

Cassandra Fernando, 34, moved to Victoria, Australia in 1999 with her parents.

She is employed in the food processing industry and has reportedly spearheaded a number of social activities.

Meanwhile, Anthony Albanese of the Labor Party is expected to become the next Prime Minister of Australia.
