100 children in the Western Province have contracted a strange disease that affects the hands, feet and mouth

Pediatrician Dr. Deepal Perera says that about 100 children suffering from Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease have come to him for treatment.

The majority of those patients were children from the Western Province.

The disease is highly contagious from child to child due to the collision and a large number of patients have been identified from Colombo and Gampaha districts, he said.

He noted that there were sick children in other provinces as well.

He pointed out that the disease is more common in children from 5 months to 8 years.

Fever, red spots or white blisters on the hands, feet and mouth are the main symptoms of this disease and if such symptoms are present, children should not be sent to day care centers, preschools or schools, says Dr. Deepal Perera. Was.

He said some children may have injuries to their hands, feet and mouth, which can make it difficult to eat.

He also noted that anorexia can occur.

He noted that although this is not a deadly disease, some children rarely get their nails removed. However, he pointed out that those nails are growing back.

He said that if there is a child with the disease, he should be kept at home for about 4 days without going to school.

The doctor also pointed out that the children should be given paracetamol, natural liquid foods and zinc-containing foods in doses.

Meanwhile, the Western Province Pre-School Unit has informed the pre-school teachers to inform the parents not to bring children with the above symptoms to school.
