85% of buses are in oil queues

Gemunu Wijeratne, President of the Private Bus Owners' Association said that about 85 percent of private buses are parked in fuel queues, causing severe inconvenience to passengers.

Mr. Wijeratne said that due to the SLTB depot not getting enough diesel, buses will have to withdraw from tomorrow (June 17).

Although the ministry said that fuel could be obtained from SLTB depots, he alleged that the depots were not supplying sufficient fuel.

He said if the government made it a priority to provide fuel for buses over the weekend, buses would be able to run as usual from Monday (June 20).

However, the Minister in charge of the subject Bandula Gunawardena had told the media that the Makumbura Multipurpose Transport Center and the petrol station at Bastian Mawatha in Pettah would be named to provide fuel for private buses.
