9-month-old baby dies suspiciously

A 9-month-old baby has died under suspicious circumstances at a house in the Algiriya area in Thelijjawila, Malimbada yesterday (June 15) evening.

The dead baby died while undergoing treatment at home after undergoing surgery due to a birth defect.

Police said information has emerged that the baby's mother had fled the home after the death.

The body has been placed at the Akuressa Hospital morgue for postmortem examination after the magisterial inquiry.

Malimbada Police are conducting further investigations into whether this is a homicide.
