A 4-month-old baby has died after being attacked by a wild elephant in the Pallakadu Garbage Dump area in the Akkaraipattu Police Division.
The incident took place on the evening of June 8 and the deceased was a resident of Vinayagapuram area.
The mother and father of the dead baby were on their way to look after the cattle when the accident happened, police said.
The mother was also injured in an elephant attack and is receiving treatment at the Akkaraipattu Hospital.
The body of the deceased baby has been placed at the Akkaraipattu Hospital morgue.
Akkaraipattu Police are conducting further investigations.
