An increase in dengue patients !


This year 24,523 dengue patients have been reported in the country, said the Director of the Dengue Control Unit, Dr. Sudath Samaraweera.


He told the media that 6,483 of them were reported in May alone.


A total of 313 suspected dengue patients were reported to the National Dengue Control Unit yesterday.


The highest number of dengue cases are reported in the Western Province, Kandy, Galle, Jaffna, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Kegalle and Ratnapura districts, he added.


Meanwhile, the National Dengue Control Unit said that as of last week, 71 Medical Officer of Health divisions have been designated as high risk areas for the spread of dengue.


Accordingly, Seeduwa, Kundasale, Trincomalee, Akkaraipattu, Kalmunai, Puttalam and Wennappuwa have been designated as high risk areas.
