One person was killed and two others were injured in another shooting in the Moraketiyaara area in Tangalle on the night of June 5, the Police Media Spokesman's Office said.
They were shot while traveling in a Bolero cab.
Tangalle police have launched an investigation into the incident and preliminary investigations have revealed that the murder was due to a drug dispute.
When inquired about this, a senior police officer in charge of the Southern Province said that there was some connection between the person who was shot dead in the Ahangama area on the 4th and these murderers. They are both said to be friends.
Police suspect that a T-56 firearm may have been used in the murder.
Two police teams have commenced preliminary investigations under the supervision of Tangalle DIG Mahesh Karunaratne.
