Johnston's attempt failed

The Court of Appeal today (June 21) rejected a writ petition filed by MP Johnston Fernando seeking an injunction restraining him from being arrested by the CID.

The decision was taken when the petition was taken up before a panel of judges comprising Sobhitha Rajakaruna and Dhammika Ganepola today.

Accordingly, the Court of Appeal today (June 21) further ruled that the Magistrate has the power to issue new orders regarding former Minister Johnston Fernando who has been released on bail.

In that order, the Court of Appeal stated that petitioner Johnston Fernando did not surrender to the court voluntarily.

The court pointed out that he appeared in court as a result of an order issued by the Court of Appeal.
