The next ships of diesel and petrol will arrive in Sri Lanka on the 16th and 21st amidst the acute fuel crisis that has once again affected the country, an internal source of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation said.
Sri Lanka's diesel reserves have plummeted and some relief will come soon after the 40,000 metric tons of diesel arrives in Sri Lanka on the 16th, according to internal sources.
A petrol tanker is scheduled to return to Sri Lanka on the 21st and it will carry 35,000 metric tons of petrol.
In the midst of this crisis, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation has decided to distribute fuel to petrol stations with restrictions.
It is also stated that although discussions have been held to purchase a diesel ship tomorrow (June 9) or the day after tomorrow (June 10), a final decision has not been taken yet.
It is also stated that due to the failure of the government to purchase fuel ships due to the dollar crisis in Sri Lanka, the ships arriving on the 16th and 21st have been obtained with Indian loan assistance.
Accordingly, arrangements have been made to release diesel and petrol to petrol stations with restrictions until the ships arrive. An official said.
Due to this situation, petrol stations in many areas are at risk of closing day by day and it is observed that there are queues for miles until the fuel arrives.
