Colombo Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe today (June 2) rejected a request made by Cinnamon Gardens Police that the court would not issue orders to prevent peaceful protests.
The Magistrate rejected a request made by the Cinnamon Gardens Police to issue an order preventing the Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) from holding a protest in Colombo today to cause public nuisance.
The magistrate said that the court would not issue orders to stop the peaceful protests and that the police should use their powers to arrest the protesters if they behaved in a manner that would cause inconvenience to the public.
Colombo Cinnamon Garden, C.W.W. The Cinnamon Gardens Police had requested the court to issue an order preventing them from entering several roads including Kannangara Mawatha, Mal Road and Nelum Pokuna Roundabout.
