Paid $ 34 million to buy fuel

Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera has said that US $ 34 million has been paid for a stockpile of crude oil and fuel for power plants and industries.

The unloading of the fuel stocks commenced June 22 and is intended to be used for power generation and industry, the Minister added.

Factories in need of fuel have been identified and the Ministry of Energy has instructed the relevant officials to supply stocks of fuel for thermal power plants as soon as possible.

Work has commenced to purchase crude oil for the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery and sources say that the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery will be able to operate without any problems once the stocks are obtained.
