The Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) has revealed that there have been a number of irregularities in the project to build a museum and a film school to commemorate Dr. Lester James Peiris in cinema.

The construction of this museum and film school commenced in April 2019 at an estimated cost of over Rupees. 100 million and the COPE Committee has recommended to the heads of the National Film Corporation that an immediate inquiry be held into the irregularities that have taken place.

Although the construction work is scheduled to be completed by July 10, 2019, the COPE Committee is also considering stopping it halfway.

Officials of the Film Corporation told the committee that bills of Rupees. 6 million had been submitted for the first phase of the construction and that Rupees. 4 million had already been settled.

An internal auditor of the National Film Corporation said that the committee had conducted an inquiry into the matter.
