The next three weeks will be a very difficult period for fuel and gas, says Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The Prime Minister made this statement in Parliament today (June 7).

He said that as a result, fuel and gas should be consumed as sparingly as possible and travel should be limited as much as possible.

The Prime Minister said that after those difficult three weeks, efforts would be made to provide fuel and gas without any shortage.

Fuel costs about $ 500 million a month, and in the current context, world oil prices are expected to rise by 40% by the end of this year, he said.

He pointed out, however, that $ 3,300 million would have to be found for fuel over the next six months.

He noted that the introduction of a ration system for fuel could not be ruled out.

The Prime Minister said that more than $ 40 million a month is required to import gas and that local and Indian loans will be used for this purpose.

He added that $ 250 million was needed to import gas for the next six months.
