What the Chinese Ambassador told Maithri

 

Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Kei Songhong has said that Maithripala Sirisena's active contribution as a senior politician is essential to overcome the current crisis in the country.


He was speaking at a meeting between Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Ki Songhong and Sri Lanka Freedom Party President and former President Maithripala Sirisena at his residence in Polonnaruwa recently.


The Chinese Ambassador stated that the Chinese Government intends to further strengthen diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and China.


The former President thanked the Chinese Government for China's support to Sri Lanka over the decades. Maithripala Sirisena has also expressed his gratitude to the Chinese President and the Chinese Government for donating the largest kidney hospital in South Asia to be built in Polonnaruwa.


The former President thanked the Chinese Ambassador for visiting his residence and briefed the Ambassador on the historical value and significance of the Polonnaruwa District.


The former President told the Chinese Ambassador that during his tenure, he was able to work with China in a very cordial manner and thereby enable Sri Lanka to receive a large amount of Chinese assistance.


The Chinese Ambassador emphasized that Sri Lanka, as a friendly country, would extend its necessary support to Sri Lanka, which is facing an economic crisis. He also promised the former president to launch a stockpile of drugs and special aid programs as a special donation to China.


The Chinese ambassador welcomed the former president's letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin in connection with the recent Russian Aeroflot incident and praised his actions as a mature leader in the country.


A delegation including the First Lady of China was present on the occasion.
