The International Monetary Fund says that it is closely monitoring the current situation in Sri Lanka.
The fund said it hoped the political crisis would be resolved soon, allowing talks on an IMF program to resume.
"We are closely monitoring developments in Sri Lanka," said Peter Brewer, the IMF's senior mission chief for Sri Lanka, and Masahiro Nozaki, the IMF's mission chief for Sri Lanka, in a statement.
"While we plan to continue technical discussions with our counterparts in the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, we look forward to a resolution to the current situation that will allow us to resume our dialogue on an IMF-supported program," they said. .
Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe had mentioned that the discussions held by the Sri Lankan government with the International Monetary Fund were successfully concluded recently.
Those discussions were held recently with its representatives who came to the island.
