Expired tear gas and CS gas were fired into the struggle

Expired tear gas bullets and CS have been used in recent protests in Colombo. The People's Rights Protection Foundation stated that they will file a complaint with the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka next Wednesday (July 20) stating that the basic rights of the people have been seriously damaged by the use of gas.


The foundation said that tear gas bullets are produced to be valid for a period of five years and that tear gas bullets manufactured in 2009 have been used for this time's protests.


The foundation also stated that many members of civil organizations, trade union leaders, representatives of various fields who participated in the protests have developed various allergies including fever, vomiting, and body pain.


He also said that many people are receiving medical treatment due to this.


These tear gas and C.S. were used in the demonstrations held at the Presidential Secretariat Office, the Presidential Palace, the Temple Tree House, the Prime Minister's Office, the private residence of Ranil Wickremesinghe, Galle Muvedara etc. The foundation also says that gas had been used.


The same foundation also mentioned that they have planned to meet the Secretary of the Ministry of Defense and get the information about the tear gas bullets within this week.


The foundation said that it will get all the information about who are the manufacturers of tear gas bullets, when they were obtained, how much was purchased, how much was used in the last protests, how much is left, how is their quality, etc. .


The convener of the Inter-University Student Union, Wasantha Mudalige, also said that expired tear gas had been fired at the previous protests.

He said that the people involved in the protests have developed various illnesses and that it should be investigated whether it was due to the effect of tear gas.
