Dr. Shafi's request to donate his salary arrears for essential drugs

The Ministry of Health has taken steps to pay the salary arrears of Dr. Shafi Shihabdeen Mohamed, a specialist in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Unit of the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital, who was accused of performing infertility surgeries.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Health has taken action to pay his arrears of salaries and allowances amounting to Rupees.

The Ministry of Health has taken this step following a recent Court of Appeal order to pay back the arrears of salaries and allowances of his suspended service before July 10.

Safi stated that he had decided not to accept the arrears but to use the money as a solution to the shortage of essential drugs in Sri Lanka.

Accordingly, steps will be taken to purchase essential medicines required by the country and supply them to hospitals in line with that amount, the doctor said.

"We are in talks with companies to buy drugs for that amount," he said. Instead of returning the check, I decided to bring the same amount of medicine. ”

He said it would be possible to achieve this by June 15.

Specialist Dr. Shafi Shihabdeen Mohamed further commented.

"There is no one in Sri Lanka who has killed more people at the top of racism than I have. Everyone should know that racism cannot move forward even if it is not a country but any institution. Therefore, we must help to create a country free from racism.

I am not cursed for being beaten by racism. He does not hate anyone. How many people would I be angry with if I went to hate to curse?

So I have to be free. I want to be free in my life. I'm not angry with anyone. But, I would like to kindly ask everyone not to do such ugly things again. All the poor people in the country have to enjoy it.

Now the poor people in our villages are enjoying this crime to the extent that they are suffering from not being able to eat and drink and are being lined up in queues. These cannot be solved just because someone came to power. That is why these people went to the shops for that and sold the profession which is so similar to a god.

Even today Sinhalese people come to worship me. The CID came in and bowed. God, do not use this racism to destroy this country where such people live. ”

Specialist Dr. Shafi Shihabdeen Mohamed has been sent on compulsory leave on charges that a large number of women who visited the obstetrics and gynecology unit of the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital were sterilized without their knowledge.

He was subsequently arrested by police on April 25, 2019 on charges of suspiciously acquiring assets.

Police said they had received information that he had assets worth over Rupees. 400 million and had arrested him with the intention of questioning whether they had been obtained by any extremist or terrorist group.

The Police Criminal Investigation Department launched an investigation into Dr. Shafi on May 27, 2019.

Accordingly, the then Police Media Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara had publicly requested the public on May 26 of the same year to lodge any complaints regarding the alleged "infertility surgery" performed by the relevant doctor.

However, after a lengthy hearing on the case, the Court of Appeal recently decided to recall Dr. Shafi Shihabdeen Mohammad, a specialist, and ordered him to pay all the salaries and other allowances that had not been paid during that period.

As a result, the Ministry of Health took steps to pay his arrears.
