Four arrested for abducting a woman and demanding ransom


Four persons have been arrested for abducting a woman and detaining her in a house in the Warikuttur area in the Puvarasankulam police division.


The suspects had telephoned the abducted woman's daughter and stated that her mother was locked up in a house and that she would be released if she paid  500,000.


The suspects threatened to shoot the mother if she did not.


Accordingly, the police arrested the suspects on the pretext of directing the complainant to pay the criminals and also took the abducted woman into police custody.


The arrested suspects are aged between 26 and 49 and are residents of Vavuniya, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu areas.


The suspects are to be produced before the Vavuniya Magistrate's Court today.

 

Puvarasankulam Police are conducting further investigations.
