The news service quoted sources as saying.
The Sri Lankan government is expected to hold another round of technical talks with the IMF in early June and a staff-level agreement is expected by the end of this month, two sources said, according to a Reuters report.
However, the news service did not respond to inquiries from IMF officials, the Sri Lankan Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank.
The IMF has pointed out that countries need to make structural economic reforms to address the root causes of the Extension Fund Facility (EFF), the 17th IMF Plan in Sri Lanka.
Once the plan is approved, the programs will typically run for three years, with a grace period of 4-1 / 2 years to begin repaying the loan, Reuters reports.
It says Sri Lanka's $ 3 billion loan is nearly four times the amount the International Monetary Fund is due to provide to Sri Lanka.
Reuters reports that it is in talks with Sri Lanka for a "comprehensive" reform package, but the International Monetary Fund has not said what kind of program it is discussing.
