We are still in the jungle by nature
One of the tragic incidents we heard about a few days ago was the murder of Fatima Aisha Akram in Atalugama. In a similar tragedy the daughters of Seya of Kotadeniya, the scientist of Jaffna and Buddhima of Dambulla passed away, falling prey to cruel thugs. It may be your beloved daughter who will face such a tragedy tomorrow. We have heard that in the past a girl was able to travel safely from one end of the country to the other. But at present it seems that such a situation does not exist at all in the country.
We hear of the tragic incident of Fatima Aisha in Atalugama, Bandaragama. She was nine years old, with two brothers and a sister.
Fatima had left the house at around 10 am on the 27th demanding Rs. 250 from her mother at the chicken shop near her house. But she was late, so when her mother inquired about it, the shop owner said he saw Fatima buying chicken and walking back home.
The shop was located 500 meters from Fatima's house. Examination of the footage revealed that she had left the store. But what happened next raised questions. Although the eagle eye of the police was focused on various sections, they eventually turned their attention to the swamp near the house. A police dog also confirmed the suspicion and stopped near the swamp.
The people of Atalugama were searching the entire village for clues about the girl, but by then the police had recorded statements from more than 30 people regarding the incident. However, the girl's body was eventually found in a swamp 300 meters from where she had disappeared.
Fatima's mother said this in tears about the brutal murder.
‘I ran and asked for 250 rupees to bring chicken. Didn't come back with the chicken. He likes to eat chicken on Fridays. My younger brother came looking for me. I was scolded for sending the child to the street. About an hour later we started looking. The older child writes the normal text. The second is 14 years old. The third was lost. The police said the daughter was dead.
The girl, who went missing on Friday morning, was found on Saturday afternoon. In the swamp, instead of the little girl, a lifeless body was found. According to the video footage, the killer was identified as 29-year-old Mohammad Farook Mohammad alias 'Kottu Bass', a resident of the Atalugama Muslim Colony. His wife, a father of three daughters, is pregnant. The killer made this confession after being questioned by the police.
‘On the 27th, when the girl went to buy chicken, I also came there. I was on ice at the time. I kept the girl near the forest until she got the meat. I dragged her through the cork trees into the woods. I touched her body. The girl tried to escape from me, moaning and asking me to leave her uncle. I pulled a piece of cloth back into her mouth a few more meters. I tore my sarong and tied my hands and feet. Then she lost consciousness. The girl was then pushed into a nearby swamp. Then I kept my knees on her back until I drowned in the mud. '
The man further said that on some days Fatima would come to play with her children and at that time he had a crush on Fatima. The killer had said that Fatima had killed the girl for fear of being exposed when she came to his house for touching her.
Police investigations had revealed that the killer had consumed around Rs. 5,000 worth of ice drugs the day before the murder. Police Media Spokesman Nihal Thalduwa stated that the girl had died due to damage to her lungs due to mud and water entering her nose and mouth.
The postmortem examination was conducted by Panadura Acting Magistrate Indrani Udawatte. Wijeweera, Uthpala Attygalle and a committee of three Judicial Officers.
The postmortem examination of the girl was carried out at the Panadura Hospital on the 30th and it was revealed that the girl had not been sexually abused. The last rites of the girl were performed at the Atalugama Cathedral Cemetery on the 30th and a large crowd was present to pay their last respects to her.
Why did this happen to Fatima?
Fatima, a child of six or four unknowns, can be tortured to death in a swamp until you get stuck in the mud with your nose and mouth? This should not be justified on the grounds that the drug was used. Because if he is not punished properly, there is a high possibility of more such crimes in the future.
Children are like a mother to a father. How many times did Fatima scream "Mommy Mommy"? How many people today are suffering without the means to raise their children? How much protection should a father give his daughter? Why could this murderer, a father of a daughter, not think that Fatima was like his own daughter? If this father had thought so, he would not have heard of such a tragedy today.
However, when their daughter was late coming home, her parents could have looked for her more eagerly, but after an hour they had gone in search of the girl. Since the most precious possession of parents is their children, parents need to know how to protect that precious possession.
Kids are like flowers. It is the mother's and father's responsibility to protect them until they are old enough to understand.
Nowadays, children are often physically and mentally abused by different people who use drugs. It is the parents' responsibility to take care of such ones as they visit their home frequently. Also, if a person loves their children in an extraordinary way, if they touch children, they should pay more attention to such people. It helps a lot to protect children.
Buddhism teaches that when a woman sees a man, she thinks of him as her sister. Or as the sister thinks. Then lustful thoughts will not arise. Think of her as her mother if she is older, as her daughter if she is older. If she had the ability to think like that, she would have been able to reduce most of the rapes that are happening today.
When will the end come to end this endless barbarism of Kotadeniyawa Seya, Jaffna scientist, Dambulla Kandalama Road Buddhima and Atalugama Fatima girl today? This barbarism is not affected by caste, creed or religion. This unfortunate incident could happen to your beloved daughter tomorrow. Therefore, we should all be vigilant about our children, but instead of leaving the responsibility to the police alone, we must firmly remember that it is your duty and responsibility to take the necessary steps to prevent the creation of the necessary environment for such crimes to take place.
Buddha Bana was recited constantly… Buddha Bana was heard constantly අතින් We still have to think about the relevance of this hymn composed by Ven. Rambukana Siddhartha Thero to the present day.
