Today is World Environment Day !

World Environment Day falls today (05).

According to an agreement reached in Stockholm, Sweden in 1972, June 5 of each year is declared "World Environment Day".

Accordingly, 50 years have passed since the relevant decision was taken.

World Environment Day will be celebrated in Sweden under the theme "One Earth".

The whole world is facing environmental problems such as overpopulation, pollution, deforestation, and global warming.

In the face of the current food and energy crisis around the world, there is an urgent need for everyone to pay attention to the environment.

Sri Lanka is also facing a number of environmental problems and projects are being implemented to mitigate those problems with the intervention of the United Nations.

Meanwhile, Forest Department spokesman Nishantha Edirisinghe said that a project is underway to increase the forest cover in Sri Lanka to 32% by 2030.
