Three members of the same family have drowned in the Welipatanwila sea in Ambalantota

Three members of the same family have gone missing after being swept away by the waves at Welipatanwila in Ambalantota.

The missing woman is 55 years old and her son is 16 years old.

Her niece's son also went with them, and the 22-year-old also drowned and disappeared.

On the occasion of Poya Day, he and several other family members had visited the Welipatanwila ancient temple in Ambalantota and had gone to tread on the sea wave behind the temple.

Our correspondent said that the mother had also been swept away when the two children were caught in the sea wave while trying to rescue them.

Ambalantota Police are conducting further investigations.
