Minister Kanchana's story about the petrol ship coming to Sri Lanka at a higher price

Mr. Kanchana Wijesekera, Minister of Electric Power and Energy, says that approval has been given to order a petrol ship which was proposed at a higher price to meet the country's fuel needs.

Addressing the Parliament today (July 6), the Minister stated that the required advance payment will be made to the concerned company and the ship is expected to be brought to Sri Lanka before the 15th.

Commenting further on this, the minister said:

"Last night, the committee of officials appointed by the cabinet gave approval to a certain company to bring fuel to the country on the 13th, but there is a problem. There is a problem and no one else has come forward. There is no other suggestion. Even if it is not confirmed, they have been proposed more than the amount taken the other day, that's why the board has approved them.

If we want to buy the fuel on the 13th, according to the prices given to us, they have offered higher prices than usual. Do we buy at those prices? Otherwise, will we be without petrol until the 22nd? The President spoke to the Prime Minister and told me that the price we have received is that if it is the same ship, we will buy the ship that comes first."
